Product Information
Vitamin D has long been known for its effects in aiding in calcium absorption and improving its effectiveness in bulding strong and healthy teeth and bones.
However, we now know that the essential vitamin is necessary in the very functioning of virtually every cell. Vitamin D deficiency can cause a host of issues, including cognitive, physical and physiological illnesses and symptoms.
Solgar Vitamin D3 2200 IU is great for...
- Keeping your bones, teeth and joints strong and durable
- Improving joint health, flexibility, and fighting off arthritis
- Helping in weight loss
- Lifting your mood (especially in winter months)
- Reducing the strength certain cancers due to its anti-inflammatory properties
- Minimising skin flare ups
The list of the benefits of vitamin D are near-endless. It boosts the immune system to fight off illness and infection. It inhibits inflammation. It helps heart health and healthy circulation. It even helps you maintain healthy brain function and boosts your mood.
Vitamin D – needless to say – is vital in our bodies’ health.
Most of the time, however, we simply don’t receive enough. It’s difficult to gain vitamin D from the sun (specifically UVb rays) – especially considering too much sun exposure is both dangerous and difficult in our British climes. In fact our bodies can produce upto 75% less vitamin D on winter days and to make it worse, the darker your skin is, the harder it is for you to formulate vitamin D
That’s why Solgar Vitamin D3 2200 IU is packed with a large dose of effective, easily-absorbed vitamin D to keep your body as healthy as can be.
Usage
1 capsule to be taken every day
Tip: Vitamin D3 is soluble in fat, so you can maximise the absorbtion by having your daily dose with a main meal (preferably one that is high in fat).
Your questions answered by our in store experts
Q: Should I take this with food/drink? Which?
A: Foods high in fat and calcium will help absorption. Examples include cheese, oils, or dairy in general.
Q: Is it possible to overdose?
A: It’d be very, very difficult to overdose on vitamin D – the toxicity levels are high. However, stick to the recommended dose to be safe. Don’t take more than 10,000 IU a day (each pill is 2,200 IU)
Q: If the recommended daily amount for vitamin D is 275 IU why do the capsules contain 2200 IU?
A: Vitamin D levels were set many, many years ago. 200 IU was chosen as an effective dose to prevent rickets in children. Our knowledge had advanced dramatically since then. Many experts agree that 1000 IU is a minimum recommendation and preferably 2000 IU or more to maintain healthy blood levels and to reap all the benefits the vitamin offers.
Q: Will vitamin D help me lose weight?
A: Overweight people tend to be vitamin D deficient. That's because excess body fat absorbs and holds on to the vitamin so it can't be utilised by the body. A lack of vitamin D also interferes with leptin, an appetite suppressing hormone whose function is to regulate body weight. Vitamin D also has an impact on insulin metabolism. So if you suffer vitamin D deficiency, taking a supplement may help, along with diet and exercise.
